Naruto

Naruto is an Japanese manga and anime that is still ongoing.

The story is about a young boy named Naruto Uzumaki who is a ninja in training and has a secret. In truth he has the Nine Tailed Demon Fox spirit sealed inside of him. The Nine Tailed Demon Fox had, twelve years before, terrorized the village and the only way the village could get rid of it was to seal it away, and the newborn Naruto was the only option, but Naruto was the only one who didn't know about it. So when Naruto is tricked by a renegade ninja, Mizuki, and is almost killed, he learns a new technique from the scroll he stole for Mizuki in order to protect himself. Through this experience, he learned about his secret power of the Demon Fox. As he rises in the ranks of ninja training, he learns new powers and is accompanied by his two partners, Sasuke and Sakura and his new teacher, Kakashi Hatake. The show unveils secret plots, a new evil and nearly every one of the characters has a dark past to fight against.
Genre: comedy, action, fantasy, drama

The manga written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto and is composed of 2 Parts, the first is 238 chapters and the second is still ongoing and continues from part one two and a half years later.

The anime Naruto is directed by Hayato Date and ran for 220 episodes, the first 135 episodes are adapted for the first 27 manga volumes. The last 80 episodes are original episodes not mentioned in the manga. Naruto Shippuden is the sequel to Naruto and is still ongoing since 2008. There are also six animated films from various points in the series that were produced. They are: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow, Legend of the Stone of Gelel, Guardians of the Cresent Moon Kingdom, Naruto Shippuden the Movie, Naruto Shippuden 2 : Bonds, Naruto Shippuden 3 : Inheritors of the Will of Fire, and Naruto Shippuden 4 : The Lost Tower. Most of the films are independent to the plot and are more fillers than anything. The only problem with this anime is that practically HALF of the episodes are not related to the plot. That doesn't mean they aren't good, they provide comic relief and interesting story lines, but they tend to make the viewer get a little impatient.

That's why I rate Naruto a 4 instead of a full 5.

Death Note

Death Note is an immensely popular manga, anime and series of movies.

The story is about a young teenager, Light Yagami, who finds the notebook of a shinigami (death god). This notebook allows the owner to kill whoever they write the name of in it. In order to kill, all you need is the name and face of a person and you can kill them within minutes with a heart attack, or you can control their actions before they die in any way you want by writing those details as well. Light uses this notebook as a tool to kill criminals to create a new world of no crime. The series follows Light and his shinigami companion Ryuk while they evade a mysterious master detective L, and is full of drama and mind games.
Genre: thriller, supernatural, action, mystery, gothic, drama

The manga was written by Tsugami Ohba and drawn by Takeshi Obata. There are 12 volumes and 108 chapters as well as a one-shot. The manga is Japanese.

The anime was directed by Tetsuro Araki and the writer is Toshiki Inoue. It ran in 2006 and 2007 and had 37 episodes. There were also two movies called Death Note : Rewrite and Death Note : Rewrite 2. The anime follows the same basic plot as the manga in a more condensed version. The movies follow different perspectives than the series, the series is following Light, while the first movie is from Ryuk's perspective, and just recaps the story, while the second movie follows L and shows a bit more to the story.

The live-action movies topped the japanese box offices over The Da vinci Code in 2008and star Tatsuya Fujiwara as Light, Ken'ichi Matsuyama as L, and Erika Toda as Miss Amane. There are 3 movies in total, the first two movies, Death Note and Death Note 2 - The Last Name follow the plot of the anime and manga. The third movie is independant from the anime and shows life after Light and stars L specifically and is called Death Note 3 - L : Change the World. The third movie is by far my favourite as L is my favourite character and his personality is better understood as well as his past.

Death Note is rated a 4.5 out of 5 in my opinion and is a must-see, I recommend the anime the most and the live action films are fun to watch after you already know the plot but are a bit too rushed to watch without knowing the background information.

Tell me your comments on what you think of this series and rate it so others can get other opinions. :)
